Below are some highlights of what’s happening in the Central Oahu community for the next few weeks.

* Family and Community Education presents free demonstrations of Christmas ideas at 6 p.m. Nov. 9 at Wahiawa Library. Call 247-0421.

* Haleiwa Gym hosts two screenings of the new surfing film Peel: the Peru Project at 7 and 9 p.m.Nov. 9. Admission is $5, and proceeds go to the Waialua Community Association.

* Public libraries are closed Nov. 10-12 for Veterans Day weekend.


* Wahiawa’s annual Veterans Day parade begins at 10 a.m. Nov. 10 at Kaala Elementary School. Call Jack Kampfer, 621-5109, ext. 226.

* Mililani Town Center hosts a Psychic Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 11 and 12. Call 239-2574.

* The Hawaiian Trails & Mountain Club leads an intermediate, 6-mile hike in the Wahiawa Hills at 8 a.m. Nov. 12. Call 674-1459.

* Emmy award-winning storyteller Jim May performs at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 13 at Wahiawa Library (622-6345), and 10 a.m. Nov. 14 at Waialua Library (637-8286).

* Turtle Bay Resort hosts “Taste of the North Shore Shrimp Trucks” Nov. 17 and the Sam Choy Poke Festival Nov. 17. Admission is $35 to either event. Some proceeds go to the Kahuku Library bookmo-bile fund. Call 293-6000.


* The ABC Craft Fair is set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 18 at Mililani High School. Call 627-7369.

* Surf & Sea of Haleiwa presents guitarist Richard Thompson and Danny Thompson (bass) at 8 p.m. Nov. 18 at Waimea Valley Audubon Centre, with guest musician Makana. Tickets are $25, or $30 at the door.

* The Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 18 at Mililani Town Center, and 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 24 at Wahiawa General Hospital. Call 845-9966.

* Area neighborhood boards meeting this month include Wahiawa at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 at Wahiawa District Park; Mililani Mauka-Launani Valley at 7 p.m. Nov. 21 at Mililani Mauka Elementary; Mililani-WaipioMelemanu at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 22 at Mililani Rec. Center III; and North Shore at 7 p.m.Nov.28 at Alii Beach Park. Call 527-5749.

* The City Council Transportation and Planning Committee holds a community outreach meeting at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 22 in the Mililani District Park multipurpose room to gather input on the decision-making process for the high-capacity transit project. Call Councilman Romy Cachola at 547-7007.

* Mililani High School’s 2007 Project Graduation collects redeemable cans and bottles from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 2 in the school parking lot. Call 625-9876.
