* CANCER AWARENESS The St. Francis Parish Nurse community outreach presents Breast Cancer Awareness Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 23 at Mililani Town Center, offering hand-outs, prizes and prevention advice for women. Call 368-8949.

* DOG ADOPTIONS Hawaii Dog Foundation stages a “meet and greet"from noon to 2 p.m. May 23 at Mililani Mauka Dog Park to let potential adoptive families get acquainted with their homeless dogs. Call 782-8387.

* STARGAZING Hawaiian Astronomical Society presents a public star party at sunset May 23 at Dillingham Airfield in Mokuleia. Call 551-1030.

* SOLAR OPEN HOUSE Sunetric hosts a solar open house from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 24 at 95-500 Poiki Place in Mililani to showcase how homeowners can cut their monthly bills. Call 262-6600.

* HALEIWA MARKET Haleiwa Farmers Market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Sunday at old Kamehameha Highway and the Bypass Road. The May 24 market offers a “Bananarama Festival.” Call 388-9696.

* GRADUATIONS Area high school graduation ceremonies are scheduled on the following dates: Mililani at 5 p.m. May 31 at Aloha Stadium, Leilehua at 6:30 p.m. June 5 at the school stadium, and Waialua at 5 p.m. June 6 at the school athletic field.

* ZONTA SCHOLARSHIP Leilehua Zonta Club and its president Bernadette Pigott, along with five other Hawaii Zonta clubs, are offering a $5,000 scholarship to women pursuing undergraduate degrees in business-related fields. Call Rene Mansho at 306-1876. Deadline to apply is June 24.

* POLO Hawaii Polo Club sponsors matches at 2 p.m. each Sunday through Aug. 16 on Mokuleia Polo Field. Admission is $8. Call 688-3154.

* WAIMEA HIKES Waimea Valley offers a variety of hikes every Saturday, starting with registration at 8:30 a.m. at the visitor center. Fee is $5 or $10 plus park admission. A “leisurely stroll” among the park’s blooming plants and fruits is offered with no additional fee on the first and third Sunday of the month with botanical collections specialist David Orr. * HI-5 DRIVE-WAHIAWA Leilehua High School’s 2009 Project Grad committee collects HI-5 containers from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first and third Saturday of each month in the school parking lot. Call 542-1793.
