July

* BON DANCES Haleiwa Jodo Mission’s annual bon dance begins at 7 p.m. July 24-25 at 66-279-A Haleiwa Road (638-4382), Wahiawa Ryusenji Soto Mission has its bon dance at 7:30 p.m. July 24-25 at 164 California Ave. (622-1429) , Kahuku Hongwanji Buddhist Temple has its final bon dance at 7:30 p.m. July 25 in Kahuku, and Waialua Hongwanji Buddhist Temple’s bon dance is at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 1 at 67-313 Kealohanui St. (625-9025).

* NEIGHBORS Mililani-Waipio-Melemanu meets at 7:30 p.m. July 22 at Mililani Rec Center III and North Shore meets at 6:30 p.m. July 28 at Haleiwa Alii Beach Park. Call 768-3710.

* PLANT DOCTOR The Plant Doctor is in - from 9 to 10 a.m. July 24 at Wahiawa Botanical Garden - to answer questions and give advice about ailing and healthy plants. Call Brian Koren at 621-5463.

* STORYTELLER National award-winning storyteller Sherry Norfolk performs at 10 a.m. July 25 at Waialua Library. Call 637-8286.

* POLO Hawaii Polo Club hosts a USPA Intra-Circuit match at 2 p.m. July 26, Fred Dailey Day, on Mokuleia Polo Field. Next up is the Dillingham Ranch Challenge Aug. 2. Admission is $8. Call 688-3154.

August

* GOALIE CLINIC Bob Barry conducts a Goalkeeper Clinic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 1-2 at Kealohi Field in Mililani for ages 8 and older. Fee is $130. Call 236-4515.

* POLO Hawaii Polo Club hosts matches at 2 p.m. each Sunday through Aug. 16 on Mokuleia Polo Field. Admission is $8. Call 688-3154.

* NIGHT WALKS Waimea Valley offers a monthly night walking tour at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 29 with guide Lopaka Kapanui sharing folklore and legends of the area. Fee is $50 for adults and $35 for children ages 12 to 16 (no keiki under 12 allowed). Call 638-7766 for reservations.

* WAIMEA HIKES Waimea Valley offers a variety of hikes every Saturday, starting with registration at 8:30 a.m. at the visitor center. Fee is $5 or $10 plus park admission. A “leisurely stroll” among the park’s blooming plants and fruits is offered with no additional fee on the first and third Sunday of each month with botanical collections specialist David Orr. * STORIES Wahiawa Library has a free preschool storytime at 10:30 a.m. each Wednesday for ages 3-5. Call 622-6345.

* WAHIAWA MUSIC Higher Ground Cafe has live entertainment from 7:30 on various nights at 70 Kukui St., offering Jazz Night, Reggae Night, Open Mic and more. Call 622-0000.

* MEDITATION “Mindfulness Meditation” is conducted from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on each second Friday of each month at Mililani Hongwanji, 95-257 Kaloapau St. Call 625-1022.

* ART IN THE PARK Interested artists meet from 9 to 10 a.m. each Wednesday for self-directed drawing and painting at Wahiawa Botanical Garden. Call 621-5463.

* SURF CULTURE The North Shore Surf and Cultural Museum is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day but Tuesday in the North Shore Marketplace, offering displays of vintage boards, posters and much more. Donation is requested. Call 637-8888.


* ESCRIMA Patrick Delos Santos offers Kali Escrima classes in Filipino self-defense (stick fighting) at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 9:30 a.m. Saturdays at Mililani Waena Elementary School. Fee is $50 per month. Call 398-0119.

* LA LECHE La Leche League of Central Oahu meets at 10 a.m. on the third Tuesday of each month in Sgt. Yano Library at Schofield Barracks. All breast-feeding and expectant mothers are welcome. Call 888-2321.

* HALEIWA MARKET The Haleiwa Farmers Market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Sunday at old Kamehameha Highway and the Bypass Road. The event offers more than 40 vendors with locally grown or made products. Call 388-9696.

* WAIPIO MARKET Kaiser Waipio Clinic hosts a “fresh day” market of healthy food and produce from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each Wednesday at 94-1480 Moaniani St. Call 432-2270.


* MILILANI MARKET Mililani High School hosts a Farmers Market from 8 to 11 a.m. Sundays in the gym parking lot. Call 848-2074.

* NORTH SHORE MARKET The North Shore Country Market runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays at Sunset Beach Elementary School.

* MOMS The Central Oahu Moms Club invites stay-at-home mothers and their children to join its activities. Call 218-8524.

* YOGA Jasmine Yoga has yoga classes for all ages at the Weinberg Community Center in Waialua. Call 561-9639.
