* CANCER SCREENINGS Waikiki Health Center’s Ho’ola Like North Shore Clinic in Haleiwa offers free clinical breast cancer screenings by appointment during October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Call 295-0253.

* KAHUKU EVENTS Kahuku Library presents a program on domestic violence awareness at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 6, a film on sugar plantation life at 3 p.m. Oct. 9, a cake-decorating class at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 13, Vietnamese shrimp rolls at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 20 and how to apply Halloween make up at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 27. * BALLROOM DANCE The Mililani chapter of HBDA offers dance lessons in waltz, samba and rumba at 7 p.m. Tuesdays from Oct. 6 to Nov. 24 at Mililani Uka Elementary School. Fee is $8 per person per dance, plus $10 membership fee. Call 292-7470.

* PLANT ILLS The plant doctor is in from 9 to 10 a.m. Oct. 9 at Wahiawa Botanical Garden with free tips on ailing greenery. Call 621-5463.

* DOG ADOPTIONS Hawaii Dog Foundation hosts a"meet and greet” from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 10 and 24 at Mililani Mauka Dog Park so families can get acquainted with its adoptable homeless dogs. Call 782-8387.

* BLOOD DRIVES Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 11 at New Hope Mililani, 95-1330 Lehiwa Drive; 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at Mililani Town Center; and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 20 at Mililani High. Call 845-9966.

* MOVIE NIGHT Waialua Community Association screens the free Walt Disney film Race to Witch Mountain at 7 p.m. Oct. 16 at Haleiwa gym. Popcorn and drinks are 50 cents each. Call 637-4606.

* SWAP MEET Waipio Shopping Center hosts a community swap meet from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 17 with booth fees going to Kanoelani Elementary and five area nonprofits. Call 722-8487.

* STAR PARTY Hawaiian Astronomical Society has a public Star Party at sundown Oct. 17 at Dillingham Airfield, offering telescopes and special facts about the stars. Call 737-4742.

* YOGA FESTIVAL True Union presents the North Shore Yoga Festival from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 17 at Turtle Bay Resort with workshops, a keiki yoga class and an evening concert by Ty Burhoe. Call 757-651-0953.

* PUPUKEA HIKE The Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club leads a 9-mile intermediate hike at 8 a.m. Oct. 18 to Pupukea summit. Go to http://www.htmclub.org.

* NEIGHBORS Wahiawa Neighborhood Board meets at 7 p.m. Oct. 19 at Wahiawa District Park, Mililani Mauka meets at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 at Mililani Mauka Elementary School cafeteria, the North Shore board at 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at Haleiwa Alii Beach Park, and Mililani-Waipio-Melemanu at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at Mililani Rec Center III. * SEAWALL HEARING The city Department of Planning and Permitting has a hearing at 10 a.m. Oct. 21 on a shoreline setback variance allowing several Mokuleia house lots to retain a fence, paved seawall and other structures that exceed restrictions on the makai side of the highway. The hearing is in the City Council committee room of Honolulu Hale. Call 768-8006.

* PROPAGATION Park staff present a free class on “The Secrets of Plant Propagation"at 9 a.m. Oct. 24 at Wahiawa Botanical Garden. Call 621-5463.

* NIGHT WALKS Waimea Valley offers a monthly night walking tour at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 24 with guide Lopaka Kapanui sharing folklore and legends of the area. Fee is $50 for adults, $40 kamaaina and military, and $35 for children ages 12 to 16. (No keiki under 12 are allowed.) Call 638-7766.

* COSTUME PARADES Haleiwa Farmers Market conducts a children’s costume contest at 10 a.m. followed by a dog parade and costume contest at 11 a.m. on Oct. 25. Call 388-9696.

* PLANT CRAFTS Doris Lee shows how to make banana leaf holiday ornaments at 1 p.m. Oct. 27 at Wahiawa Botanical Garden. Fee is $5. Call 621-5463.
