* MOKULEIA HEARING The Department of Planning and Permitting has a public hearing at 10:30 a.m. March 9 in Honolulu Hale room 205 on a shoreline setback variance at Kaiahulu Bay in Mokuleia. Call 768-8025.
* WAIALUA COMMENTS Public comment is due by March 9 on a permit to allow two more homes at Au Kai Hale Makai, a beachfront, apartment-zoned parcel at 68-180D Au St. in Waialua. Call city planners at 768-8032.
* OVERDEVELOPMENT Mililani-Waipio-Melemanu Neighborhood Board and the Sierra Club host a public forum at 7 p.m. March 10 at Mililani Mauka Elementary on “Overdevelopment in Central Oahu: What Can Be Done About It?” Call 262-2182.
* GARDEN TRAINING A teacher certification training course in Square Foot Gardening is set for March 11-13 at Turtle Bay Resort, led by founder Mel Bartholomew. * PLANT DOCTOR The plant doctor is “in” from 9 to 10 a.m. March 12 at Wahiawa Botanical Garden, answering questions about ailing plants. Call 621-5463.
* LIBRARY FURLOUGHS All public libraries are closed March 12 and 19 for staff furlough days and March 26 for Prince Kuhio Day.
* MEDITATION Mililani Hongwanji, 95-257 Kaloapau St., offers “Mindfulness Meditation” from 7:30 to 9 p.m. March 12. The program is a guided, silent and walking meditation based on the Thich Nhat Hanh. Call 625-1022.

* KAHUKU RECYCLING Kahuku High and Intermediate School has an Aloha Aina recycling drive from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 13, welcoming all kinds of recyclables from scrap metal to batteries to laptop computers.For free towing of cars,call Rene Mansho at 306-1876.
* MEETING DOGS Hawaii Dog Foundation hosts “meet and greet” sessions with its adoptable dogs from noon to 2 p.m. March 13 and 27 at Mililani Mauka Dog Park, 95-1069 Ukuwai St. Call 782-8387.

*KAENA HIKE Sierra Club leads a 6-mile hike/seminar March 14 at Kaena Point and the Mokuleia coast. Meet at 8 a.m. at Church of the Crossroads. Call 955-4168.
* NEIGHBORS The Wahiawa-Whitmore Village Neighborhood Board meets at 7 p.m.March 15 at Wahiawa District Park, Mililani MaukaLaunani Valley meets at 7 p.m. March 16 at Mililani Mauka Elementary School, the North Shore board meets at 7 p.m. March 23 at Haleiwa Alii Beach Park, and MililaniWaipio-Melemanu meets at 7:30 p.m. March 24 at Mililani Rec Center III. * TOWN MEETING State Rep. Marcus Oshiro hosts a Legislative Town Meeting from 6 to 8:30 p.m. March 16 in Wahiawa District Park’s Hale Koa room for discussion on community issues and refreshments. Call 586-6200.

* ORCHID SHOW Kunia Orchid Society has its 56th annual orchid show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 19 and 20,and 9 a.m.to 4 p.m.March 21 at Leilehua High School gym, featuring displays, food booths, orchid sales and supplies, demonstrations, prizes and “the plant doctor.” Donation is $2.
