Hawaii 3Rs has announced jobs targeting 28 more schools for repairs and remodeling this fall, three of them in Central Oahu: Leilehua High, and Hale Kula and Mililani Uka elementary.
Grants this semester will support upgrades for playground equipment, a stage, a parking lot, exterior walls, security screens, water fountains, sprinkler systems, carpets, lockers and stage curtains. Estimated taxpayer cost overall is $1,932,000, but with donations of labor, cash and equipment, 3Rs is able to cover all 28 projects with $944,400 in grants.
The Hawaii 3Rs Initiative was established by U.S. Sen. Dan Inouye in 2001 to reduce the backlog of repairs through “sweat equity” and work days with parents, businesses and military help.
3Rs stands for Repair, Remodel, Restore our Schools.
