Construction is expected to begin this fall on a 4-foot-high chain-link fence and concrete mowing strip at Mililani Mauka Community Park, located on Lehiwa Drive neighboring Mililani Middle School.
The long-awaited project is now moving forward with an appropriation of $250,000 from the 2009 CIP passed by the City Council. The design and construction of the park improvements were made to ensure the safety of park users, including youth soccer and baseball teams who hold practices at the park.
Residents have expressed concerns about the layout of the park relating to safety because of an embankment that slopes toward the road. This embankment poses hazardous for those who have to retrieve balls or other items.
Mililani Mauka Community Park also will have a new playground soon. The 2011 CIP budget sets aside $140,000 to erect playground equipment there.
Also approved for next year is $690,000 to construct basketball and tennis courts at Mililani District Park next to Mililani Park and Ride on Ukuwai Street.
