It’s cherry blossom season, and Wahiawa Nikkei Civic Association invites the community to two days of fun and cultural entertainment to celebrate it.
The festivities include Japanese music, dance and taiko this Saturday and a trolley ride through Wahiawa town Feb. 4 to show off the area’s famed Sakura trees. Also, 10 1-foot-long potted cherry trees will be given away at Saturday’s event.
Wahiawa Nikkei Civic Association secretary Rene Mansho said the activities are the brainchild of former association president Masao Wakatake.
“We are keeping the tradition alive,” she said, “and as long as the public is interested, as long as the trolleys are full and everyone enjoys their day in Wahiawa, we will keep doing it. Everyone enjoys it so much.”
Saturday’s program runs from 7 to 9 p.m. at Wahiawa Hongwanji. Tickets cost $5 at the door or by calling Evelyn at 621-3659.
Trolley rides cost $18 with an optional $5 bento. The first tour departs Wahiawa Ryusenji Soto Mission at 9 a.m. Feb. 4. A second tour begins at 11 a.m.
Seating is limited, so reservations are required by calling Mansho at 3061876 to reserve a seat.
