Aloha Aina Earth Day No. 18 comes to Mililani Saturday, when residents are urged to bring all kinds of metal, paper, appliances and old bulky things to the Mililani High School gym parking lot between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The recycling drive is spear-headed by local politicians and businesses and coordinated by Rene Mansho of Schnitzer Steel, which will give proceeds from the drive to the high school.
“It’s a great way to clean out illegal dumpsites as well as your own garages and back yards and to turn the trash into cash for the community,” Mansho said.
Items wanted are scrap metal, auto parts, bicycles, metal appliances, newspaper, cardboard, HI-5 beverage containers, passenger tires, green waste and car batteries. Goodwill Industries will also be on site to accept re-usable household items, clothing, etc.
For more information or for help with pick-up, call state Reps. Ryan Yamane at 551-2093 and Marilyn Lee at 542-4438; or City Councilmen Nestor Garcia at 547-7009 and Donoan Dela Cruz at 271-5457.
