The Mamoru and Aiko Takitani Foundation awarded $88,000 in scholarships to 59 Hawaii students during a luncheon June 16 at Waialae Country Club.
Central Oahu students selected were Kayla Ramiscal of Waialua High, who won a $2,000 grant; winners of $1,000 were Kyle Monette of Mililani High, Hilary Nakasone of Leilehua and Stephanie Wee of Hanalani Schools.
Awards are based on academic achievement, community service and financial need.
The foundation originated with the Takitanis, who established Hawaiian Host chocolates and have been awarding scholarships to outstanding students at every qualifying high school in the state since 1993.
