The success of the 2010 Sony Open PGA Tour golf tournament earlier this year spilled over into a $1-million gift to island nonprofits, as distributed through Friends of Hawaii Charities Inc. and matched by the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation with help from individual donors.
Awards were given out May 26 at Bishop Museum to more than 150 local charities that have projects that work to help women, children and the elderly.
Among the Central Oahu recipients are the North Shore Food Bank, Wahiawa’s Opportunities and Resources Inc. and Surfing the Nations, Hawaii Fi-Do Service Dogs in Kahuku and YMCA Camp Erdman in Mokuleia.
