Happy Thanksgiving. Now on with the Christmas parades.
Central Oahu organizations and businesses are planning at least three of them for the holiday season, beginning Dec. 3 with the Wahiawa Community and Business Association’s annual Santa Claus parade.
* The WCBA’s march starts at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 3 at Kaala Elementary with more than 30 floats and units, including the Leilehua High School Band, to escort Santa Claus down California Avenue to Center Street and the town’s shopping centers. Elves will pass out candy along the route, and Santa (resembling Wahiawa Lion Jim Quinn) will visit the kids at parade’s end. For details, call 621-6531.
* The Mililani Christmas Parade starts at 9 a.m. Dec. 4 at Mililani Town Center near Taco Bell and ends at Mililani Shopping Center. Both centers plan festivities, and they expect about 500 marchers - though Santa will ride in a classic convertible. Call 625-5233.
* Haleiwa Main Street (formerly North Shore Chamber of Commerce) sponsors its 10th annual Haleiwa Christmas parade at 6 p.m. Dec. 10 at Weed Circle with chamber founder Charlene Terukina as grand marshal. It travels through the town to Haleiwa Beach Park with 250 marchers, 25 vehicles, four floats and four bands. The town’s main street will shut down for about one hour to accommodate the march. Santa will be at North Shore Marketplace before and after the parade until 8:30 p.m. Call 637-4558.
