Chamber Wants Your Blood

The North Shore Chamber of Commerce wants your blood, and there’s no escape.

If you are a healthy, disease-free adult on Sept. 12, go directly to the Hawaii Blood Bank bloodmobile between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. across from Alii Beach Park - or call ahead for an appointment at 637-7425 or 848-4721.

“This will be our fourth blood drive in Haleiwa, and I’m really proud of our North Shore donors and merchants’ beautiful expression of aloha; they give of themselves to help others, expecting nothing in return,” said Dr. Virginia Abshier, a NSCC member who is sponsoring the drive.

“Please come out this year and donate to save patients and improve the quality of people’s lives,” she said, noting that while 60 percent of Hawaii residents need blood at some point, only 2 percent of us donate blood.

“We must change that statistic,“Abshier said.“It’s safe, it’s simple, it saves lives. It’s a bumper sticker waiting to happen.”

Abshier is a Lifesaver Club member of the blood bank and practices internal medicine at North Shore Health Center in Kahuku.
