Classroom Building OK’d For Crowded Mililani High

A new 10-classroom building is finally on its way to the crowded Mililani High School campus.

“We’re looking forward to the new building,“said principal John Brummel.”(We have) teachers that are in cramped quarters.”

Seven multi-purpose classrooms will be housed in the new building - five of which will be combined to provide an assembly space for public use on a limited basis. Two science classrooms, two student conference rooms, faculty work centers and offices, as well as various support spaces are also included in the plans.

Brummel is especially enthusiastic about having more science space.“It gives students better access to facilities that will enhance opportunities.We have it designed so it meets needs for teachers and students for the future for collaborative teaching.”

The Kalihi-based 57 Builders will start construction in March 2007, and the estimated completion date is June 2008. Total cost is $6,919,000.

The high school currently has 20 portable classrooms,totaling 18,000 square feet. The new building will replace a portion of existing portable classroom space and have specialty uses such as the science labs, which the portables cannot provide.
