Dodge Dealers Seek Items To Send Deployed Troops

The Hawaii Dodge Chrysler Jeep Dealers Association has joined a national effort to collect care packages during May - Military Appreciation Month - for servicemembers deployed overseas.

The dealers have compiled a list of 16 favored items that area residents may contribute to the cause. Cutter Dodge Chrysler Jeep of Waipahu, Pearl City and Kaneohe are serving as drop-off points.

To date, Operation Gratitude has sent more than 100,000 care packages to individual troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Guantanamo, Bosnia, Kosovo and onto ships all over the world.

The Hawaii dealers also contribute to local drives and have created the Fallen Heroes Fund.

Items sought for the troops include disposable cameras, pre-paid phone cards, handheld electronic games, battery-operated fans, trail mix, Girl Scout Cookies, powdered beverages, lip balm, moist towelettes, baseball caps, blank greeting cards, used cell phones and much more. Unsealed personal letters and notes are also appreciated.

The collections will be delivered over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
