Dredging Scheduled For Haleiwa

Del.icio.usMaintenance dredging began last Friday to remove about 8,000 cubic yards of sediment from Haleiwa Small Boat Harbor.
Trade West Construction Inc. is scheduled to work daylight hours Mondays through Thursdays to take sediment from the entrance channel and outer portion of the harbor.
According to a state Department of Land and Natural Resources announcement, the boat ramp and half of the entrance channel will remain open, but boaters are advised to exercise caution. The entire channel will be open Friday-Sunday and federal holidays. The project should be finished by the end of the year.
The dredged material will be de-watered at the a harbor, and suitable material will be used for beach nourishment projects.
The Army Corps of Engineers constructed both the Haleiwa and Waianae boat harbors, and the Waianae site will be dredged in early 2010. Total cost for both jobs totals $1,794,000 in federal stimulus funds.
