Health Centers To Receive Energy Upgrades

Del.icio.usThe release of $3 million for energy upgrades for health centers and facilities, and another $710,000 for national guard buildings and renewable energy projects could burn a hole in Hawaii’s huge dependence on imported fossil fuels.
The Public Health Nursing Office at Wahiawa Civic Center will receive $352,430 of these funds for energy efficiency, including electrical upgrades, retrofitting light fixtures and installing new air conditioning units.
The proposed projects for the Hawaii Army National Guard include lighting at Wahiawa Armory and at Fort Ruger.
The energy-efficiency improvements are part of the Lingle administration’s continuing efforts to make state office buildings and facilities more energy efficient in order to reduce electricity costs and decrease Hawaii’s dependence on imported fossil fuels.
The effort supports the governor’s Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative, which aims to have 70 percent of Hawaii’s energy come from clean sources by the year 2030, including 40 percent from renewable energy and 30 percent through energy conservation means. The estimated completion date for the projects is set for November 2010.
