Two Central Oahu school have each won a $2,000 grant that rewards their past efforts and continued work on the “Eat Smart, Play Hard” campaign.
Healthy Hawaii School Challenge Team Nutrition Mini-Grants went to 15 schools statewide - including Mililani Ike Elementary and Mililani Middle schools - all of which have shown “exemplary commitment to the health and wellness of their students.”
Team Nutrition materials and messages are designed to instill habits of good eating and being physically active, based on the basic principle that healthy students are better able to learn.
In Mililani Ike’s program, for example, selected students played games and exercised at 7 a.m. daily, then ate a “healthier"breakfast prepared by the cafeteria staff.
