USO Hawaii offers a safari to the Honolulu Zoo for Oahu’s military families this Saturday, and shuttle service is available from four locations, including Schofield Barracks.
As part of the zoo’s Military Appreciation Day, families and individual servicemembers can enjoy free admission and entertainment from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Plus the first 8,000 military ID cardholders will receive a free picnic lunch.
“It’s important to honor our servicemen and women and their families with a day of food, entertainment and goodwill at one of the wildest places you can go in our community,” said Mayor Mufi Hannemann.
“All of us in Hawaii owe so much to the members of our armed forces and the families that support them.”
On the agenda are games, arts and crafts, the Royal Hawaiian Band, Roy Sakuma and his Ukulele Keiki with Tommy D, Dita Holyfield and Hana Hou, the Air Force Band of the Pacific. Several businesses contribute to this annual zoo day.
For those traveling by car, free parking and a shuttle operate from Kapiolani Community College, with entry from the Monsarrat Avenue gate. (The main entrance is for the public.)
