National Kidney Foundation of Hawaii is teaming up with state Rep. Michael Magaoay to provide free medical screenings to approximately 125 Haleiwa residents at risk for kidney disease.
The screenings are set for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Liliuokalani Protestant Church.
To qualify for the Kidney Early Evaluation Program, people should be 18 or older and have at least one risk factor for kidney disease, such as high blood pressure or diabetes, or have a sibling or parent with those conditions. Each participant will receive a blood pressure check and health risk assessment, and can speak individually with a nurse or physician. Lab technicians also are on hand to test blood and urine samples.
Results will be accessible to each person’s physician following the screening.
More than 2,500 Hawaii residents have kidney failure, and kidney disease here is 30 percent above the national average.
To sign up for the screening, call 589-5906.
