The Hawaii State Public Library System began implementing its own furlough days Dec. 16, when all public libraries and administrative offices were closed.
Additional closures are scheduled for Dec. 24 and 31, 2009, Jan. 13 and 27, Feb. 3 and 10, March 5, 12 and 19; April 7, 14 and 21; and May 5 and 19, 2010.
The library system completed negotiations with the HGEA on a supplemental agreement that requires all full-time union employees with the HSPLS be placed on unpaid furlough for 15 days in fiscal year 2010 (Dec. 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010) as well as 15 days in FY 2011 (July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011).
Library branches affected in Central Oahu include Mililani, Wahiawa, Waialua and Kahuku.
