Lions Honor Good Leaders, Heroes

Del.icio.usThe Wahiawa Lions Club will honor two leaders for community service and everyday heroism at the club’s general membership dinner scheduled for 6:45 tonight (Dec. 6) at Dot’s in Wahiawa.
Young winners of a 2006-07 Peace Poster contest will also be honored, and City Councilman Charles Djou will speak to members and guests about mass transit options.
The Every Day Hero Award will be presented to retired dentist Dr. James Shimokusu, the president and “prime mover and shaker” of the Wahiawa Rainbows Seniors Club, who encourages folks to keep fit and stay active.
“He is their vigilant line dancing instructor,” said Lions president Rene Mansho said.“His positive attitude is contagious, and the members deeply appreciate the time and endless energy he gives to keeping senior citizens healthy.”
Last month’s award for Outstanding Achievement in Community Service was given to retired Circuit judge Marie Milks. To find out December’s honoree, come to the meeting.

Area winners of the Wahiawa Lions’ “Celebrate Peace” art contest are also invited.
Winners are Krystal Alcayde of Wahiawa Middle School, first; Mysha Pierce of Wheeler Middle School, second; Ritchel Agustin (Wahiawa Middle), third; and Jezerae Rodriguez (Wheeler Middle), fourth.
