Operation Headrest Will Welcome Infantry Home

Del.icio.usTrinity Lutheran School students have been decorating some very special pillow-cases lately, and it doesn’t stop there.
The nearly 200 colorful pillowcases are Trinity’s way to thank the troops via “Operation Headrest.” They will be placed in the barracks rooms for returning troops in the 3rd Infantry Battalion Combat Team.
“They got a lot of appreciation out of that,“said principal David Wittig, noting that the children “enjoy it anytime they can mess with paint.
“We have a lot of military families,and whether they are a military kid, or a non-military student who has friends whose parents are deployed, it was a nice project.”
The parent-teacher group provided the linens and paint for the paint-in, which took place Sept. 1 for 180 student designers. Parent Debbie Waters, who is family readiness adviser to the battalion, and other volunteers collected the completed pillowcases for delivery.
“We are starting another service project,“Wittig added. “We’re putting together welcome-home packets of toothpaste, shampoo and personal items that will go into the rooms, too. It’s an ongoing thing with military families,and we enjoy doing that.”
