In a yearly project initiated by the Wahiawa/Waialua Rotarians, four clubs joined hands Nov. 24 to refurbish an Easter Seals adult day care home in Ewa Beach.
Members of Mililani Sunrise and the Wahiawa/Waialua clubs and colleagues from the Kapolei and West Pearl Harbor clubs met that Saturday to install new hand rails and repair two wheelchair ramps at the facility on Renton Road.
“I am always amazed at how hard Rotarians work on construction projects,” said Area District Governor Cathy Barnes. “We sanded, scraped and painted the ramps, then installed new handrails. We were covered in sawdust and paint.”

The work also earned the volunteers “rave reviews” from the Weinberg Foundation, which awarded their efforts with a $10,000 Weinberg Friends grant. The clubs will turn over the grant to US Vets on Kalaeloa toward the purchase of a container classroom with all utilities and all amenities.
The Mililani Sunrise Rotary Club will head up next year’s Weinberg project.
