Scientists Talk About Pupukea-Waimea

Three distinguished scientists will discuss the Pupukea-Waimea Marine Life Conservation District in a special “Pupukea-Waimea Science Talk Story” set for 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday in Waimea Valley.

The speakers are Alan Friedlander of the University of Hawaii zoology department, Eric Conklin of The Nature Conservancy and Carl Meyer of the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology.

The public event is sponsored by several groups whose common goal is to protect the marine ecosystems of the North Shore. Billed as a first annual talk story, the program will focus on the science behind the conservation district and how to achieve “our community vision of more fish and healthy reefs.”

The community is welcome to attend, and light pupus and refreshments will be provided by the park’s Waimea Grill.

Co-sponsoring the evening talks are Waimea Valley Hi’ipaka LLC, North Shore Community Land Trust, the Hawaii Division of Aquatic Resources, Hawaii Community Stewardship Network, the UH Sea Grant Program and Hui Malama o Pupukea-Waimea.
