Society Is Collecting Wahiawa History, Lore

Del.icio.usThe Wahiawa Historical Society has continued to push forward in its mission to collect and preserve the history of the beloved century-old town.
Since assembling six months ago, the group has been hard at work expanding its historic Wahiawa collection. The most recent efforts have been directed within the society’s collection committee, chaired by founding member Libby Smithe. The committee has constructed a form for people to complete to make it easier for them to collect stories, and also has worked on a list of elderly families to interview.
“We’ve been collecting anything anyone will give us,” said Smithe, who is also office manager of Wahiawa Community and Business Association. “We got pamphlets and things like the 1950 Pineapple Festival program. Basically things people have collected, they donate it to us.”
Anyone who is interested in joining WHS or has a donation or story to share can call Smithe at 621-7097. Cost to join is $25 per person, $50 for families and $100 for lifetime membership.
