Wahiawa Historical Society will learn tips on endowments and neighborhood preservation during its annual meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wahiawa Botanical Garden.

Guest speakers are Charlene van der Pyl of Morgan Stanley, who will discuss the advantages of endowment funds for nonprofits; and City Council Chairman Ernie Martin, who will share information on preserving historic neighborhoods. Van der Pyl also is financial adviser to the Friends of Honolulu Botanical Gardens.

“These are two really great speakers,” said member Grace Dixon, noting the WHS “is not just collecting information about the good old days.” It aims to have a continuing input on Wahiawa, she explained. Currently, the nonprofit group is working on issues impacting older Wahiawa neighborhoods, particularly traffic snarls from church schools and the fate of the architecturally designed DeHarne home on Walea Street,, which is up for sale.

Reservations for the program and installation luncheon cost $15. The meeting is open to the public. For details, call 621-0043.
