Storage Firm Is Trying To Ease Space Crunch Costs

With gas prices and the cost of living in paradise at an all-time high, many Oahu residents are experiencing financial hardships and, as a result, are adjusting their current living situations.
To assist residents through these times, Hawaii Self Storage, including its newly opened facility in Mililani, is offering a minimum of four months of free storage to individuals in need through its Transition Assistance Program.
“A lot of our customers are being evicted from their homes because they lose their jobs,“said HSS president Daniel Ho.
“Small companies shut down, and there’s a lot more families not even thinking about renting space because of the cost.”
The Mililani facility, boasting more space and advanced security features, also offers a chance to win free storage or to “crack the safe"for a shot at $50,000 and other prizes at its grand opening from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Mililani Technology Park (233 Akamainui St.) There will be food, entertainment by the Mililani High School Band, Halau Ho’ohui Kaikua’ana, Kalaeloa with Taz Vegas and HSS mascot Mr. Safety.
Those interested in applying for the storage offer must submit a letter and proof of residential financial hardship to Hawaii Self Storage. The TAP board then will review and fill the qualified requests on a first-come, first-served basis.
“(The initiatives) enable us to help families and give back by giving away free lockers,” Ho explained. “It’s the people of Hawaii that make us successful.”
