Wahiawa Center Takes Steps To Expand Training Services

A Wahiawa center that assists disabled clients has a major face lift as well as a newly renovated, 2,700-square-foot facility that will soon be able to double the number of people it serves.
Lanakila Teaching and Learning Center (a program of Lanakila Pacific) recently unveiled the $600,000 phase II revitalization, which alleviated possible safety hazards and takes a significant step toward expanding its use. When completed, it will have the ability to serve 70 persons daily.
“We’re thrilled to have this new facility, as it will allow us to greatly increase not only the amount of people we serve, but also the number of services,” said deputy director Kristen Killian. It will have resources and activities not usually provided at centers for the disabled, such as computer and Internet resource rooms, a greenhouse and hydroponics system. All 450 clients of Lanakila Pacific can take advantage of it. “From computer skills, to growing food, to the overall mind-body connection, we have great programs both happening now and in the works that will benefit many people in Central Oahu,” added Killian.

There coming are programs designed for veterans and a wellness program for clients and the public, offering tai chi, yoga and qigong.
