Wahiawa Community and Business Association and Empower Oahu will host a town meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 22 at Kaala Elementary School cafeteria to present the findings of a July 24 brainstorming session on how to revitalize the area.

Community feedback on the findings will be considered in the draft of the Wahiawa Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area application. There will be talks about forming a community-based development organization to spearhead the ideas from the NRSA application. Organizers says this meeting will determine whether or not the ideas will be implemented. Without community support, the improvements will not be carried out.

The concerns that were raised July 24 include Wahiawa’s homeless population, crime, health care, speeding, traffic, schools, poverty, beautification, developing the town center, building civic pride, community leadership and participation.

Completing the NRSA application will be an important step toward obtaining federal money to use for neighborhood projects. For more information, call Jack Kampfer at 621-5109, ext. 226.
