Waialua Community Association will sponsor an Aloha Aina Earth Day recycling drive from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 2 at Haleiwa Gym, adding a canned food drive for Hawaii Foodbank and accepting “an unlimited number” of residential and commercial computers.

Also welcome are all kinds of metal, appliances, HI-5 containers, cooking oil, cell phones, printer cartridges, phone books, cardboard egg cartons and corrugated boxes, plastic bags, CDs and DVDs, green waste, magazines, batteries and more. Charities will make use of any donated clothing, household items, hearing aids and eyeglasses.

Donors may exchange old light bulbs for two CFLs per person, and Goodwill will accept certain plastic bottle caps to ship off for recycling.

For curbside pickup, call Nicole at 637-4606; for towing of unwanted cars, call Rene Mansho of Schnitzer Steel at 306-1876.

Cash proceeds from the recyclers will benefit WCA.

Also involved are a dozen local businesses, organizations and government staff.
