A workshop on the traditional uses of kalo (taro) will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Waimea Valley, bringing together kalo experts, local farmers and residents to learn and share their knowledge.

The free, interactive workshop is on the second floor at the Proud Peacock and is sponsored by the valley’s botanical and cultural program groups.

Presenters include native farmer Jerry Konanui, DOE teacher and veteran kalo cultivator Kawehi Ryder and restoration ecologist Penny Levin of Maui. Levin also is a member of the Taro Security and Purity Task Force.

Light refreshments are available, and participants are welcome to bring lunch or purchase it at Waimea Valley Grill. For more information, call Jennifer Yagodich at 638-5859.
