Waimea Valley Turns 3 With Games And Tours

On Aug. 15 Waimea Valley celebrates its third year as an official natural and cultural resource by inviting the public to a day of Hawaiian activities, tours and games.

“Pulama O Waimea” will open with protocol ceremonies at 9 a.m., followed by plant sales, crafts and demonstrations, games and tours focused on the garden, native plants and the park’s history. Entertaining will be Waialua’s own Ke’ala Trio, Halau Na Lei Nani O Waialua and kumu Ku’uipo Garrido. Kupuna will share mo’olelo in the afternoon, and the event concludes at 5 p.m.


 

The Waimea ahupua’a was rededicated on Aug. 12, 2006, following its acquisition by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs in partnership with the city, state, U.S. Army and the Trust for Public Land.
