A&B Properties Inc. recently acquired Waipio Shopping Center and has plans to add tenants as space becomes available.

The property is anchored by Foodland and primarily serves Waipio and its neighboring Waikele and Crestview communities. Currently 96 percent of the space is leased, including the restaurants Outback Steakhouse, Big City Diner, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut.

“Our plans are to retain the existing tenant mix and add new tenants based on vacancies,” said David I. Haverly, A&B Properties vice president.“We do have the opportunity to add two in-line tenants at this time; two spaces of about 1,400 square feet each have become available.”

The large property allows for future development of additional retail or office space, although no immediate plans to expand has been confirmed.

“We are looking ahead at how to better serve the community, both the business community and neighborhood residents looking for convenient access to goods and services,” Haverly added. “The popularity of the center, as evidenced by its strong occupancy even during this economic slump, encourages us to consider our options to add space, but we don’t yet have a timetable for any changes.”

A&B Properties also bought the Waipio Industrial Portfolio from Gentry earlier this year. For more information on the property, contact leasing agent Nathan Fong at 523-9740.
