Not every luau has taiko drumming, but then Ho’ala School is not like any other school. The private school known for its creativity and character education curriculum also knows how to have fun - which it did May 3 at its second annual luau. Held in the Wahiawa Hongwanji auditorium (its home base), the party drew more than 350 guests, who were treated to a performance by the student taiko drumming class, bouncers, prizes, the King Pins, emcee Lina Girl of KCCN FM and plenty of Hawaiian food. Ho’ala has 87 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 and hopes to unite all grades on its Lehua Street campus someday. The luau and cookie bake Nov. 22 help pay for it. There’s still room in pre-K. For details, call 621-1898.
