The annual Pineapple Festival May 26 was a treat for everyone who came to the Wahiawa celebration. Besides the historically significant fruit itself, folks could sample the best from island chefs, listen to top musicians, hear old tales and buy new products from the North Shore’s diversified farmers. The narrated trolley tours through Wahiawa proved popular, and Leilehua’s JROTC cadets kept busy monitoring the parking scene at Wahiawa District Park. Keiki enjoyed rides, activities and displays of armored vehicles from the old and new Army, while contestants vied for the best-tasting pineapple desserts and entrees. The best part is that visitors left with a feeling of optimism for the town “after pineapple.”
