Chaminade Aims High In Nursing Plan

Along with its plans to open a school of nursing next year, Chaminade University has just hired a new associate dean of nursing and is moving ahead with a $1.2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce to establish a state-of-the-art facility for program.
Stephanie Genz, former professor and assistant nursing dean at Viterbo University, a Catholic college in Wisconsin, has stepped into an exciting whirlwind of positive change on the hill in Kaimuki.
“Dr. Genz is an excellent nurse, a leader, a compassionate and exacting educator, and a wonderful asset to our team here,” said Helen Turner, dean of natural science and mathematics.
Responding to the critical shortage of nurses here and across the nation, Chaminade is taking steps to build up its Center for Nursing Education.
Renovations have begun, and plans are to complete it by the fall of 2010.
The new center will have two large nursing-skills labs, a cutting-edge simulation suite equipped with high-fidelity patient simulators, and a laptop-equipped smart classroom for the delivery of instruction.
It also will have dedicated computer and instructional rooms, a standardized patient laboratory, faculty offices and renovated teaching and research laboratories for the biomedical sciences.
The vision for the CNE is to provide preparation at the bachelor of science level in both four-year and 18-month programs, leading to competency for the NCLEX examination for registered nurses.
