Maunalua To Lead Hawaii Kai Marchers

Del.icio.usThe Keiki Kalikimaka Hawaii Kai Holiday Parade should get residents into the spirit of the season at 10 a.m. Nov. 28 as it begins its 1.5-mile march down Lunalilo Home Road from Kamilo Iki Community Park to Koko Marina Center.
Bobby Moderow Jr., Kahi Kaonohi and Richard Gideon of Maunalua are grand marshals of this year’s parade, sponsored by Hawaii Kai Lions Club and expected to attract more than 1,000 marchers and 30 vehicles, plus beauty pageant queens, classic cars, community groups, churches, schools, Honolulu firefighters and equipment, decorated floats and three bands: Buena High School from Arizona, Avant Garde Drum & Flag Corp from Calgary, Alberta, ant the Royal Hawaiian Band.
The U.S. Marine Corps and Toys for Tots return for the event, collecting donations of new unwrapped toys along the route as well as at Koko Marina Center. Santa Claus will be in the march and at the carnival to follow.
The Christmas carnival runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Marina courtyard next to Assaggio’s Restaurant. Donors of cash and toys will receive a free ride on the Twister, Carousel, Lil’ Swing or Mini Ferris Wheel.
Other free activities include face painting, a keiki hula performance, tarot card reading from Jaya the Mystic, cotton candy and juggling by Stevo the Clown.
Santa arrives at 11:30 a.m. via speed boat from Hawaii Motor Sports Center. Children can have their photo taken with the big man for free, and families can check out the Lokahi Tree by Bank of Hawaii, which is hung with wish lists from the needy.
