Below are highlights of what’s happening in the East Oahu community in the next few weeks.

* Kona Brewing Co. Pub in Koko Marina Center has live music from 7 to 9 p.m. May 3 by Nahoa, May 4 by Weldon Kekauoha and friends, May 5 by Naluhoe, May 6 by Jon Osorio, May 7 by Ledward Kaapana (6-8 p.m.), and much more. Call 394-5662.

* Palolo Chinese Home sponsors its annual golf tournament at 12:30 p.m. May 4 at Ala Wai Golf Course. Call 739-6038.

* The Christian hip-hop group Born Again presents songs from its debut album, Crossfire, at 6:30 p.m. May 5 at Waialae Baptist Church: free CDs, free refreshments, free admission. Call 342-3071.


* The Kahala hotel hosts Hawaii Theatre Center’s annual gala, Carnivale, at 6:30 p.m. May 5 featuring a lavish dinner, silent and live auctions and top entertainment. Call 791-1302.

* Joan Namkoong, co-founder of the KCC Farmer’s Market, signs copies of her new book, Food Lover’s Guide to Honolulu, from 7 to 8 p.m. May 5 at Barnes and Noble Kahala, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. May 6 at the KCC market, and from 11 a.m. to noon May 6 at Borders Express Kahala. * Bibelot Gallery features Inside Out, an exhibit on new oils by Sanit Khewhok through May 5 at 1130 Koko Head Ave., Suite 2. Call 738-0368.

* Star of the Sea Church and Schools presents its East Honolulu Food Festival, a gala fundraiser with top local chefs, from 5 to 9 p.m. May 6. Call 722-1145. * Liholiho Elementary School holds its Family Fun Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 6 on the Maunaloa Avenue campus. Call 733-4850.

* Honolulu Waldorf School’s annual Tastes & Treasures dinner and auction start at 5 p.m. May 6 at a Kailua beachfront estate. Call 377-5471.

* Wesley United Methodist Church hosts a Chamber Music concert at 7:30 p.m. May 6 at 1350 Hunakai St. in Kahala, featuring violinists Sasha Margolis, Emma Philips and Anna Womack, and cellist Mark Votapek performing Mozart’s Divertimento and Schumann’s String Quartet No. 3. * Hanauma Bay Education Center theater screens a free PBS film at 6:30 p.m. May 4 on Global Warming: the signs and the science, narrated by Alanis Morissette. On May 11, UH graduate student Yoshiki Yamazake discusses “Tsunami Modeling, run-up inundation and warning system development for the Hawaiian Islands.” Call 397-5840.

* The state Board of Education meets at 6:30 p.m. May 11 in the Aina Haina Elementary School cafeteria for “an open exchange of ideas” with the community. Topics include standards-based reform, assessment and accountability, and restructuring. Call 586-3349.

* Island Triathlon & Bike holds a giant “cycle swap"garage sale from 2 to 5 p.m. May 20 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Kapahulu Avenue to benefit the BikeEd program. Call 732-7227.

* Kaiser High School band presents its aloha concert at 7 p.m. May 25 in the school gymnasium. Call 394-1218.

* The Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club leads a 3-mile hike up the slopes of Koko Head at 8 a.m. May 27. Call 377-5442.
