Below are highlights of what’s happening in the East Oahu community in the next few weeks.
* STAINED GLASS The Accents Gallery at Honolulu Stained Glass hosts “Wine, Cheese & Chocolate” from 5 to 7 p.m. March 7 at 3520 Waialae Ave. Call 737-8018.
* ORATORY The American Legion National High School Oratorical Contest for Hawaii is set for 9 a.m. March 10 at Sacred Hearts Academy, featuring the best speakers from Sacred Hearts, La Pietra, Iolani, Kohala and Punahou schools. The public is welcome. Call 221-4328.
* NEWCOMERS The Honolulu Newcomers Club holds a Welcome Coffee at 10 a.m. March 8 and a monthly luncheon at 11:30 a.m. March 15. Call 396-2628.
* BOARDS Area neighborhood boards meet at 7 p.m. this month on the following dates: Diamond Head-Kapahulu-St. Louis Heights board, March 8 at the Ala Wai clubhouse; Palolo Neighborhood Board, March 14 in the Palolo Elementary School cafeteria; Waialae-Kahala, March 15 at Wesley United Methodist Church; Kaimuki, March 21 at Liliuokalani Elementary School; and Hawaii Kai, March 27 at Hahaione Elementary School. * MEDITATION Honolulu Diamond Sangha presents a free orientation to meditation March 10 at a Buddhist temple in Palolo Valley. Call 735-1347.
* BOOK FAIR Barnes & Noble Kahala will support Kalani High School’s computer program by donating a percentage of its sales receipts to the school on March 10 and 11. To obtain the required voucher, customers may call 377-7744, ext. 235.
* REMODELING Koko Marina Center sponsors a Remodeling Made Easy program, Spring Cleaning, from 3 to 6 p.m. March 11, plus Irish music at 5 p.m. in the courtyard. Call 395-4737.
* MUSUBI L & L Drive-Inn sponsors its annual St. Patrick’s Day Green Corned Beef Musubi Eating Contest from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 17 at Kahala Mall. A $1,000 cash prize is at stake. (Registration closed Feb. 23). Call 951-9888.
* ENTREPRENEUR Kapiolani Community College offers “Start Your Dream,” an entrepreneur-ship program March 20-May 10, supported by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. Classes meet from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Tuesdays and Thursdays, with a preview class at 5:30 p.m. March 15. Call 734-9256.

* BLOOD The Hawaii Blood Bank conducts area donor drives from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 11 at the Hawaii Kai Towne Center; 7 to 11 a.m. March 18 at Kahala Mall (near Macy’s Men’s Dept.); 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 22 at Chaminade University’s Eiben Hall; and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 2 at Kapiolani Community College, between parking lots C and E.
