Below are highlights of what’s happening in the East Oahu community in the next few weeks.

* NEIGHBORS Area neighborhood boards meet at 7 p.m. on the following dates: KuliououKalani Iki, Aug. 2 at Aina Haina Library; Palolo Neighborhood Board, Aug. 8 in Palolo Elementary School cafeteria; Diamond Head-Kapahulu-St. Louis Heights board, Aug. 9 at the Ala Wai clubhouse; Kaimuki, Aug. 15 at Liliuokalani Elementary School; and Hawaii Kai, Aug. 28 at Hahaione Elementary School. * MUSICAL Diamond Head Theatre has extended Lee Cataluna’s play You Somebody with additional shows at 8 p.m. Aug. 3, 3 and 8 p.m. Aug. 4, and 4 p.m. Aug. 5. Tickets range from $12 to $42. Call 733-0274.

* AUDITIONS Diamond Head Theatre auditions actors at 7 p.m. Aug. 3 and 2 p.m. Aug. 4 and 5 for The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Director is Andrew Sakaguchi, and playdates are Sept. 21-Oct. 7. Call 733-0277, ext. 309.

* BON DANCING Palolo Higashi Hongwanji conducts its annual bon dance at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 3-4 at 1641 Palolo Ave. Call 732-1491.

* BLOOD DRIVES The Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 3 in the 12th Avenue parking lot; from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at Hawaii Kai Towne Center; and from 7 to 11 a.m. Aug. 19 at Kahala Mall near Macy’s men’s department. Call 845-9966.

* WRITING TALK Robert Mann, author of Forensic Detective, addresses the Romance Writers of America in a workshop at 10 a.m. Aug. 4 at Aina Haina Library. His topic: “Research Techniques for Fiction Writers.” Call 735-9610.

* SCHOOL DRIVE East Honolulu Rotary Club collects school supplies and monetary donations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 4 and 5 at Kahala Mall for Palolo Elementary School. Collection site is between Macy’s and PacSun.

* HANAUMA A presentation and guided beach walks are planned for 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 11 at Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve for “Exploring Hanauma Bay’s Night Life.” For details on this and other weekly events, call 397-5840.

* NUTRITION Dr. John Kelly discusses plant-based nutrition in a free lecture at 7 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Vegetarian Society meeting at Ala Wai Golf Course clubhouse. Call 944-8344.

* MUSIC Kona Brewing Co. Pub in Koko Marina Center has live music at 7 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and Sundays from 6 to 8 p.m. (guests to be announced). Call 394-5662.

* HULA Halau Kawaihoa holds free classes in competitive hula from 7 to 9 p.m. each Wednesday at Hahaione Elementary School. New, serious students are welcome. Call 292-2738.

* YOGA Inner Fire Hawaii offers Kundalini and Hatha yoga classes at 6 p.m. each Tuesday in Portlock. Fee is $10 per class. Call 255-9839.

* AIKIDO The Hawaii Kai Aikido Association offers classes at 7:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday and 2 p.m. Saturday at Koko Head District Park. Call 722-8769 or 387-1655.
