Below are highlights of what’s happening in the East Oahu community in the next few weeks.

* VITAMINS Author Steve Blake shares insights from his book Vitamins and Minerals Demystified at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 in the Ala Wai clubhouse. The free talk includes refreshments and is sponsored by the Vegetarian Society of Hawaii. Call 944-8344.

* NEIGHBORS Area neighborhood boards meet at 7 p.m. on the following dates: Palolo Neighborhood Board, Sept. 12 in the Palolo Elementary School cafeteria; Diamond Head-Kapahulu-St.Louis Heights board, Sept. 13 at the Ala Wai clubhouse. Kaimuki, Sept. 19 at Liliuokalani Elementary School; Waialae-Kahala, Sept. 20 at Wesley United Methodist Church; Hawaii Kai, Sept. 25 at Hahaione Elementary School; and KuliououKalani Iki, Oct. 4 at Aina Haina Library. * NEWCOMERS The Honolulu Newcomers Club hosts a Welcome Coffee at 10 a.m. Sept. 13 and its monthly luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 20. Call 591-7600.

* HANAUMA Hanauma Bay Education Program presents free Thursday night lectures this month at 6:30 in the park theater on: “Embryonic Development of a Sea Anemone"Sept. 13;“Jelly Surfers” Sept. 20; and “Cnidarian Nervous Systems and Coral Development” Sept. 27. Call 397-5840.

* BLOOD DRIVES Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 14 at Chaminade University and from 7 to 11 a.m. Sept. 16 at Kahala Mall (near Macy’s Men’s Dept.).Call 845-9966.

* HEALTH FAIR Palolo District Park hosts a health fair - with entertainment - for seniors from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 15 in the park gym. Call Joe Yasutake at 733-7363.

* AARP DRIVING The AARP Driver Safety course is offered from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 15 and 22 at the Kaiser Hawaii Kai Clinic. Fee for the two-part program is $10. Call 432-2260.

* SQUARE DANCING Free introductory square-dance lessons are planned for 5 p.m. Sept. 16 and 23 at the Ala Wai Golf Course ballroom. Call 695-5182.

* WILD BIRD CARE The Wild Bird Rehab Haven presents a training workshop at 2 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Regency Park Condos rec room for those interested in the care and feeding of wild baby birds. The condo is on 3rd Avenue near the Chaminade entrance. To reserve a

space, call 447-9274. * MONEY Kaiser Hawaii Kai Clinic has a course in Better Money Management at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 18. Fee is $15 for non-members. Call 432-2270.

* PANIOLO Koko Marina Center presents Na Paniolo Nui O Hawaii from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 22 in the courtyard, featuring a festival of keiki activities, games, demonstrations and dance on a Hawaiian cowboy theme to coincide with Aloha Festivals 2007.Call 395-4737.

* QIGONG Blue Sky Healing Arts presents a Chi-Lel Qigong Full Moon Healing Circle at 5:15 p.m. Sept. 25 at Sandy Beach Park. Call 259-8453.

* TOUCH POWER Kaiser Permanente’s Senior Summit presents “Nurturing the Power of Touch for the Elderly"at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 27 in Kahala Nui’s Diamond Head Room. Call 432-2235.

* READING Barnes & Noble at Kahala Mall presents author and former Hahaione teacher Frances Kakugawa at 11 a.m. Sept. 29, reading from her poetry and books Mosaic Moon and Wordsworth Dances the Waltz.

* ROYAL BAND The Royal Hawaiian Band performs a free concert at 2 p.m.Sept.30 at Kahala Mall. Call 922-5331.

* MUSIC Kona Brewing Co. Pub in Koko Marina Center has live music Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 6 to 8 p.m. Call 394-5662.

* HULA Halau Kawaihoa holds free classes in competitive hula from 7 to 9 p.m. each Wednesday at Hahaione Elementary School. Serious students are welcome. Call 292-2738.


* YOGA Inner Fire Hawaii offers Kundalini and Hatha yoga classes at 6 p.m. each Tuesday in Portlock. Fee is $10 per class. Call 255-9839.

* MARKET The KCC Farmers Market is open from 7:30 to 11 a.m. every Saturday at the college. Call 848-2074.

* AIKIDO The Hawaii Kai Aikido Association offers classes at 7:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday and 2 p.m. Saturday at Koko Head District Park. Call 722-8769 or 387-1655.

* HARMONY Sounds of Aloha Chorus rehearses at 7 p.m. Thursdays at Ala Wai Clubhouse. New singers are welcome to try out.
