Below are highlights of what’s happening in the East Oahu community in the next few weeks.
* CUISINE Faith Ogawa gives a free cooking demonstration at noon Oct. 3 at Kapiolani Community College as a preview to KCC’s culinary arts benefit Ho’okipa dinner Oct. 5 at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. For Ho ‘okipa tickets, call 734-9544.
* ELDER CARE Kahala Nui sponsors a free breakfast seminar at 7:30 a.m. Oct. 4 on “Stages of Care for the Elderly” for financial and estate planning consultants. For reservations, call 218-7200.
* NEIGHBORS Area neighborhood boards meet at 7 p.m. on the following dates: Kuliouou-Kalani Iki on Oct. 4 at Aina Haina Library; Palolo Neighborhood Board, Oct. 10 in the Palolo Elementary School cafeteria; Diamond Head-Kapahulu-St. Louis Heights board, Oct. 11 at the Ala Wai clubhouse. * ROY’s MUSIC Tahiti and Kaleo entertain from 6:30 p.m. Oct. 6 and 20 at Roy’s Hawaii Kai. Call 396-7697.
* THEATER Diamond Head Theatre presents The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas through Oct. 7. For tickets, call 733-0274. The theater also auditions actors at 7 p.m. Oct. 12 and 2 p.m. Oct. 13 and 14 for Meet Me in St. Louis, which will run from Nov. 30 to Dec. 16. Call 733-0277, ext. 309.
* BLOOD DRIVES The Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 8 in Kaimuki’s 12th Avenue parking lot; from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 14 at Hawaii Kai Towne Center; and from 7 to 11 a.m. Oct. 21 at Kahala Mall. Call 845-9966.

* RECYCLING Kaimuki High School hosts an Aloha ‘Aina Earth Day recycling drive from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 13, welcoming metal, cardboard, cans, tires, newspaper, cell phones, ink cartridges, computers (one per car) and much more. * PARENT HELP The Kalani Complex PCNCs present two free workshops for school parents from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 24 in the Kahala Elementary School cafeteria: Ruth Wong on “Organizing Basic for Busy Families” and credit union staff on “Finance 101.” Sign up by Oct. 17 through your local school.
* KANIKAPILA The Kaimuki Business & Professional Association sponsors a Celebrate Kaimuki Kanikapila from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 3 at Kaimuki Park featuring crafts, food, and homegrown entertainment. Call 739-5272.
* CRAFT FAIR The “Season’s Best” Craft & Gift Fair is open from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at Aliiolani Elementary School in Kaimuki, offering 200 vendors, gifts and food.
* HIKE The Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club conducts a 3-mile novice hike along the Hawaii Kai ridge at 8 a.m. Nov. 3. Go to www.htmclub.org
* MUSIC Kona Brewing Co. Pub in Koko Marina Center has live music Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 6 to 8 p.m. Call 394-5662.
* HARMONY The Sounds of Aloha auditions new men’s voices for four-part harmony at 7 p.m. each Thursday at the Ala Wai Clubhouse. Singers are especially wanted for their Christmas show. Call 262-SONG.
* HULA Halau Kawaihoa holds free classes in competitive hula from 7 to 9 p.m. each Wednesday at Hahaione Elementary School. New, serious students are welcome. Call 292-2738.
