* RECYCLING Waialae Public Charter School conducts a HI-5 recycling drive from 7 to 8 a.m. Nov. 17 at the school to benefit the fourth-graders’trip to the Big Island. Call 733-4880.

* SHANGRI-LA PLAN The city Department of Planning and Permitting conducts a hearing at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 17 at 3840 Paki Ave. on a request from the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art to allow demolition of a maintenance building and construction of a two-story maintenance building at the Black Point estate. * LIBRARY RHYMES Nyla Fujii-Babb presents “First Rhymes and Tales” at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 18 at Hawaii Kai Library. Call 397-5833.

* SLOW FOOD Town Restaurant hosts a Slow Food Tuscan Dinner and book launch of Douglas Gayeton’s Slow Life in a Tuscan Town on Nov. 18. Call 735-5900.
