Below are highlights of what’s happening in the East Oahu community in the next few weeks.

* Hawaii State Ballet stages The Nutcracker through Dec. 17 at Mamiya Theatre. For tickets, call 741-6205.

* Kahala Mall presents Traci Toguchi at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 13, John Cruz at 2 p.m. Dec. 16, the Royal Hawaiian Band at noon Dec. 21, and Maunalua at 2 p.m. Dec. 23. Ka Hale I o Kahala performs a holiday hula series at noon Dec. 16 and 23. Call 732-7736. * The Palolo Neighborhood Board meets at 7 p.m. Dec. 13 in the Palolo Elementary School cafeteria, and the Kaimuki board is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Dec. 20 in the Liliuokalani Elementary School cafeteria. * Hanauma Bay Education Center offers a free lecture at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 14 in the park theater. Graduate student Daniel O’Doherty will discuss invasive macroalgae. Call 397-5840.

* Honolulu Newcomers Club hosts a Welcome Aloha Coffee at 10 a.m. Dec. 14 and a monthly luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 21. Call 396-2628.

* The Hawaii Blood Bank conducts area donor drives from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 17 at Hawaii Kai Towne Center; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 23 in the Kaimuki Municipal Parking Lot; and 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 31 at Hawaii Kai Towne Center. Call 845-9966.

* The annual Festival of Lights Boat Parade starts at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 16 in waters off Hawaii Kai Towne Center featuring dockside entertainment and 30 decorated boats in the marina. Entertainment starts at 4:30. Call 396-2469.

* Hawaii Health E-Network presents Grandmaster Qinyin and Powerful Group Healing from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Hawaii Kai Library. Considered a foremost Qigong innovator and spiritual teacher, she will share insights from decades of practice in China. Fee is $10 in advance. Call 638-0888.

* Hawaii Vocal Arts Ensemble presents its Candlelight Christmas concerts at 7:30 p.m. Dec.16 and 4 p.m Dec. 17 in the Mystical Rose Oratory at Chaminade. Tickets are $35 to $5. Call 550-8457.

* Students in the Hawaii Youth Symphony string program perform at 2 p.m. Dec. 17 in the Kaimuki High School auditorium. Call 941-9706.

* The Hawaii Kai Library presents A Very Merry Christmas Party at 5:15 p.m. Dec. 18 with stories, balloons, prizes, goodie bags, crafts and refreshments. Call 397-5833.

* An exhibit of original works by artist Solomon Enos is scheduled for Dec. 21 at the Moku Ola Hawaiian Art Gallery in Koko Marina Center. Call 479-6550.


* Kaiser High’s 2007 Project Graduation conducts a HI-5 recycling drive Dec. 23 at the school and a Pizza Day at any Papa John’s on Dec. 27 and Jan. 24 (present fund-raising form). Call 753-2668.

* Five East Oahu churches offer a candlelight Christmas Eve service at 6 p.m. Dec. 24 in the Koko Head Elementary School cafeteria. The public is invited. Call 386-9328.

* The Honolulu Bulls Soccer Club hosts the Pro-Xtreme Holiday Soccer Camp from Dec. 26 to 29 at Waialae Iki Park. Fee is $200 or $225 walk-in players. For more information, call 561-4663.

* The Hawaiian Trails & Mountain Club leads a 3-mile intermediate ridge hike to Koko Crater beginning at 8 a.m. Jan. 1. For details, call 377-5442.
