Author Shares BestSelling Novel ‘Lottery’

Acclaimed author Patricia Wood has sailed the Pacific in a 39-foot sailboat, competed in horse shows, worked in the Army and published underwater photographs.

Now she’ll talk about her best-selling novel Lottery at 2 p.m. April 25 at Kaimuki Library. The book has been translated into more than 20 languages worldwide and just missed the 2008 Orange Broadband Prize for Fiction.

Reviewers call it a “deeply satisfying, gorgeously rendered” story of trust and loyalty - about an orphan named Perry,31,whose weekly Washington state lottery ticket wins him $12 million, after which he discovers that he has more family than he knows what to do with.

Wood is currently at University of Hawaii working toward her doctorate in education, disability and diversity - while continuing to write fiction.
