East Oahu motorists are advised to be aware of a Hawaii Kai traffic improvement project that may affect their daily commute along the Kalanianaole Highway corridor.
The state Department of Transportation’s Highways Division is currently extending the third westbound lane of the highway, from Hawaii Kai Drive eastward to Keahole Street.
The extended lane will provide increased traffic movement from the busy Keahole Street intersection and a sheltered merge for Keahole Street motorists entering the highway.
Motorists are asked to drive with caution through construction areas and expect possible traffic delays.
DOT officials estimate that the project should be completed by March of 2011.
