All four Hawaii counties have been designated as agricultural disaster areas due to losses caused by this year’s drought. But thanks to U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Thomas Vilsack’s July 19 designation, farm operators and producers in East Oahu and elsewhere are eligible to be considered for Farm Service Agency emergency loans and the Supplemental Revenue Assistance Program.
The FSA will consider each emergency loan on its own merits by taking into account the extent of losses, security available and repayment ability.
Farmers in eligible counties have eight months from the date of the disaster declaration to apply for loan help.
For details on the programs, Oahu farmers should call the USDA Farm Service Agency at 441-2704.
