The stage is set in Kaimuki for 8to 12-year-olds to immerse themselves in theatrical expression.

Developed by Honolulu Theater for Youth, students in Primary Players take their interest in acting to a deeper level in a springsemester course that begins Jan. 21 on the Sacred Hearts Academy campus.

“We realized this past summer that we are developing a group of students who have already been in our programs for younger students and are looking to take the next step in exploring their creativity and dramatic imaginations,” said HTY’s education administrator Courtney Biggs. “Primary Players was created with those students in mind as well as students who perhaps have not taken our programs before, but are looking to develop their theater experience in a more intimate, targeted setting.”

The program is limited to 12 to 15 students and will offer activities, games and exercises to engage their senses and imagination and to encourage expressive use of voice and movement. The training runs from 9 to 11 a.m. through May 19 on alternating Saturdays; it will conclude with a performance. Fee is $300.
