Leahi Recieves $370,000 Funds

Del.icio.usLeahi Hospital recently received more than $370,000 in government funding for repairs and upgrades by the end of this year.
The funds will help the hospital install a venting system for the elevator shaft, construct an accessible wheel-chair ramp in the parking lot, repair wall surfaces in the patient corridors and improve the overall exterior of its buildings, including repairing concrete spalling and repainting exterior walls. Leahi Hospital is one of several hospitals statewide benefiting from the $3,705,355 released by the governor in August to the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
The Young Building in particular, first constructed in 1951, will receive a large portion of the funds along the Kilauea side of the campus to repair exterior walls with concrete patching and touch up paint,” said Miles Takaaze, HHSC public affairs director. “Architect Curtis Miyamura has already been selected, so when he finishes the preliminary plans and specs we’ll move forward with a contractor. Interested local contractors should be on the lookout for a public notice in the near future.”
Leahi Hospital opened in 1901 to care for tuberculosis patients and has since added long-term nursing and adult day health services. It is one of three facilities under Oahu Region within HHSC; the others are Maluhia and Kahuku Medical Center (now a subsidiary of HHSC).
